Your first class will be scheduled with one of our instructors. You will be greeted by the instructor when you arrive and will be required to fill out a "New Student Form" which consists of basic information and an agreement to the rules and policies of the studio - it is not a contract and does not obligate you to pay for anything. The instructor will go over various basics of the studio: studio etiquette, class structure, schedules and a few fundamental techniques. Our duty is to make sure that you feel comfortable with the beginning of your martial arts experience. We encourage you to ask questions and find the pace that you work best at.

Competition may be fun and be a great driving force behind why people train so hard, but the answer is ultimately - No. You are not required to compete in tournaments in order to continue training or promote to a higher rank. While our instructors have personally trained students who have reached grand champion levels in various tournaments, competition is an optional element of your martial arts experience.

Generally speaking the answer is yes, but this cannot come from us - it must come from a medical professional. We ask that if you have any medical concerns you take the time to speak with your doctor and gain clearance from them before engaging in any type of physical training program. In some cases participating in martial arts is considered highly beneficial to students with chronic medical conditions such as ADHD or autism. Nevertheless it is always recommended to consult a medical professional before participating.

The philosophy behind martial arts training is to develop positive character traits through traditional martial arts training. These traits include respect, discipline, focus, confidence and self-control. It is our objective to teach these traits and help children learn to handle difficult situations in a calm and peaceful manner. They learn to only use their martial arts to defend and protect themselves from real danger. Even students who have had behavioral problems in the past often develop a more respectful attitude and kindness toward others.z

This is wonderful! The short answer is yes, we do honor previously earned rank. The details of how we honor the rank is contingent on multiple factors such as amount of time trained, rank achieved, accreditation of instructor/organization, etc. Because of this, every transfer will be handled on a case by case basis.
