The benefits of foam rolling could range from warming up your muscles to a helping you recover faster after a workout. There was a study published in 2019 to examine the pre-workout & post-workout effectiveness of this spongy little tool that can be addictive. I used it daily for years! 𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐌-𝐔𝐏 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐨𝐫 𝐑𝐄𝐂𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘 𝐓𝐎𝐎𝐋?
Here were the results: Overall, it was determined that the effects of foam rolling on performance and recovery are rather minor and partly negligible, but can be relevant in some cases (e.g., to increase sprint performance and flexibility or to reduce muscle pain sensation). Evidence seems to justify the widespread use of foam rolling as a warm-up activity rather than a recovery tool. So TRUE or FALSE are foam rollers effective? From my 20 years’ experience, I have experienced positive results warming up or using after a run to increase mobility. One word of warning, it can be like a deep massage and cause bruising and pain so user beware and be gentle. Start using 5-min as a total body warm-up and use a 4 roll technique in various directions but avoid over-doin it!
