Pressing is a huge part of training at SDSC, one of our foundational movements, the Bench Press might be one of the more functional movements you can do. Which variation you do (Barbell, Dumbbell, etc.) will depend first on the orthopedic ability of the athlete. Second consideration is the goal of the individual, Strength athletes tend to stick to(80 - 90% of total workload) DB and BB variations (Due to less stability requirements), whereas functional athletes can try some other variations (Bottoms up KB, pushup variation, etc.) in order to develop a broad vocabulary of movement.
