Received my Black Belt today (Shodan/Dan 1) in Shotokan Karate from Sensei Taka Maeshima. I could not be more damn proud of myself !!!! Quite obviously I’m eternally grateful to Sensei Taka - his teaching, his patience (more than anything with us old dudes) and his unrelenting commitment to making us better at karate. I have to admit - this achievement is more satisfying than when I got my actuarial credentials (🤮) because this time my kids got to see their dad go through three years of hard training (I’m told I’m obsessive, not sure where people get that impression of me … it’s unfounded honestly), training six days a week, an hour or two in the evenings, twice a day at times on weekends - not obsessive at all, just disciplined, focused and committed - more like a pit bull on a t-bone really, again, not obsessive. Lol! I’m excited to take my training to a whole new level under the expert guidance of Sensei Taka and train even harder. It’s been a fantastic journey and bucket list goal I had since I was 15. What a rush it’s been and what a ride !! Very Excited about the journey ahead!! Thank you Sensei Taka!! I’m very grateful.
