In 2023, The Pilates Studio of Bellingham will celebrate 20 years in Historic Fairhaven. We are deeply committed to help everyone feel welcome and included in our classes. Understanding that every body is unique, we take great care at being attentive to your individual needs in our group classes. Group classes are limited to 6 and Reformer limited to 3, which means we can spread the love around! We offer in-person or LIVE STREAM from the comfort of your home. Our Studio is spacious, cozy and tranquil. It’s a space of healing and rejuvenation. We welcome everyone who joins our Studio family.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a mind-body form of exercise designed to bring balance to the body by coordinating breath with controlled, focused movement. It addresses core muscular strength and overall flexibility to improve postural alignment, balance, and coordination. Developed by the late Joseph Pilates, this system of exercises also teaches how to effectively work specific muscle groups around a joint, while alleviating tension throughout the rest of the body.

Who can benefit from Pilates?

Pilates is still popular with dancers, gymnasts and athletes, but it is equally suitable for most men and women, from nine to 90, and beyond. Pilates is particularly suited for:

Is Pilates like Yoga?

While both Pilates and Yoga are mind-body forms of exercise, emphasizing deep breathing, centering and precision, Yoga moves from one static pose to another and focuses on flexibility. In contrast, Pilates emphasizes strengthening the postural muscles and flows through a series of movements that are more dynamic and anatomically based and may include the use of resistance equipment.

Will I lose weight with Pilates?

Pilates may help you lose weight by toning your muscles, but it is not an effective weight-loss system. If you would like to see maximum weight loss results, your fitness program should include Pilates for toning, mindfulness and injury prevention, some form of cardio (walking, biking, running, etc.) and should include a well-balanced, healthy diet.
