It is important to understand the fundamentals of an exercise. Proper technique and path (Example: Barbell & Dumbbell) will not only target the muscle resulting in better progress, but will also help you refrain from injury. With that being said, a person’s bone structure or current physical status can produce a need to alter an exercise component. One such example is the barbell bench press. If a person has issues with their rotator cuff, bench pressing with a bar at full range of motion could be painful. Using a foam board block with the barbell can decrease the range of motion and allow for a more pain free experience.
