What an amazing and exciting past 5 days in Costa Rica! Words can not describe our excitement and how proud we are of everyone that competed at the World Taekwondo Presidents Cup.nnResultsnnAriana Yap: Cadet 148cm Sparring í ¾íµ (Pan Am Wildcard)nLeonora Yap: Tiger Sparring í ¾íµ nMaster Nguyen: U40 Individual Poomsae í ¾íµ nnRECAP:nnMaster Nguyen competed in the G-2 Individual U40 Poomsae Event where he battled against Panama to advance to the semi-finals in a close match. In semi-finals, he faced Chile, who was the US Open Silver Medalist. Odds stacked against him, he gave a thrilling performance which surpassed Chileâs performance and advanced to the finals! Unfortunately, in the gold medal match Mexico gave a wonderful performance and edged Master Nguyen out of the top spot. This is Master Nguyenâs biggest accomplishment to date in the Individual Poomsae division and it secures his Top 40 World Ranking! Congratulations Master V for this amazing accomplishment. nnFor athletes in the Senior, Junior, and Cadet divisions, winning this event secures a wildcard to the Pan American Championships. No one from Massachusetts has ever qualified in the Cadet division... until this weekend!nnAriana Yap, whoâs been training so hard, gave two amazing performances in sparring, showing that she's ready for the world stage by beating Costa Rica and another USA athlete with a dominating victory, securing a Wild Card to the Cadet Pan American Championships! Holding up the American flag to represent your country in such a big event is an amazing feeling. From a coaching perspective, it's an honor to see an athlete overjoyed after trusting the process and seeing all of their hard work pay off.nnWe canât forget about Arianaâs amazing sister, Leonora Yap! She went from being a huge cheerleader and supporter to suiting up and competing at the color belt festival. She took inspiration from her sisterâs moments and fueled her own energy and enthusiasm into her match against a Blackbelt athlete from Costa Rica, winning round 1 convincingly and point gapping her in the second round. nnIt was truly a Golden weekend for Kwon's and the Yaps.nnThank you to Tiger An's Tae Kwon Do and t.Bos Taekwondo Competition Team for believing in us and giving such amazing opportunities to these wonderful athletes and coaches. nnAnd a sincere thank you to all the supporters in Costa Rica and back at home.
