Range Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu NYC

BJJ techniques heavily rely on leverage and angles over brute strength. As demonstrated by MMA star Royce Gracie in the first UFC events, properly applied submission holds or sweeps can topple larger, stronger opponents. Shifting angles lets practitioners wedge limbs or the neck into vulnerable positions. Maximizing leverage intensifies the pressure on joints and chokeholds. Trapping an adversary in your guard also limits their offense. Surviving dire situations requires calmly recognizing opportunities to incrementally achieve superior positioning. Everything is exceptionally well thought out and focused to give the students the best possible learning experience starting with the cleanliness of the gym, the addition of small items like nail clippers and mouthwash (before you laugh realize both issues are annoying!
Wonderful teachers!
You become friends with the people you train with, and Range is a place where nice people come together.
Highly recommend Range BJJ for anyone looking to practice the best martial art and improve both physical and mental health.
I've always been interested in grappling, and I'm glad I was able to start here.
Each class from fundamentals to intermediate to advanced has a structured curriculum which builds thematically on prior lessons—I’m not sure what Eduardo specifically recommends as optimal but as someone who attempts to attend at least three times per week, it seems to work well with new lessons always introduced in the context of ongoing training.
Most look to work on their technique instead of trying to overpower you with their strength, and if there’s something you’ve been wanting to work on everyone’s willing to let you work if you ask…but also be prepared to spend a lot of time working on retaining guard 🤣.
I've been training at Range for almost a year and a half now and have not only fallen in love with the sport of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu but also the community that Eduardo and the other coaches have cultivated at the academy.
The place is as clean as a doctors office and has showers if you have to bolt off to work after a class.
He doesn't simply explain how to do moves, he explains why you might apply them in a given situation and gives great context to everything he teaches.
