These women show up weekly to train, learn and empower themselves. Yesterday it showed in their belt gradings. Tara displayed excellent technique as she was promoted to green belt, as well as solid technique displayed by my newest blue belt. nnThey make me proud as a karate instructor to watch them grow and improve their techniques - from basic movements to kata/form (a series of attacking and defensive movements), followed by practicing the self-defense applications behind the movements. nnAfter grading, I asked them what inspires them to show up and train: n“It empowers me and I feel stronger.”n“Learning the kata movements gives me a sense of pride, and understanding the practical applications behind the moves in kata.”n“It’s a way for me to relieve stress and not think about work or other things going on.
