FAQs

What is the recommended age to start?

The recommended age for beginning serious training is from approx. 6 years old, deopending on, the individuals. However, we do offer 'young Ninjas' program from age 3. This group works on Karate initiation, in a funny and playful way to help children to better know their body, control their movements, respect rules and others.

Is there an age limit in Shotokan?

No. A child as young as 3 can learn shotokan. A person as old as 100 can learn Shotokan under proper instruction. Realistic goals are set based on the needs and ability of each student.

Do I need to call to schedule a time for the free class?

No. You are welcome any time we are having classes. We prefer you to come to try the class you would actually be taking. No appointment is necessary, just show up. Be sure to wear something comfortable and easy to move in.

Will I be required to fight in tournaments?

No. Even if though members of our school participate to tournaments very often and do extremely well, and even participation allows us to learn from and expose ourselves to other styles and students, tournaments participation is completely voluntary. Learning to win over yourself , not others, is the ultimate goal!

How can I recognize a good instructor?

A good instructor is someone who: "loves to teach and help others", sincere, considerate, mature, confident, "has understanding and patience", can motivate the students, has good attitude and good techniques, cares and is protective of her/his students. Observing classes is the best way to judge whether or not a school will be a good learning environment for you.
