FAQs

How long does it take to learn an instrument?

This is an impossible question to answer, but one we are frequently asked. I'm sure the answer would include diet, genetics, age, self-discipline, personal commitment, etc.

What is the earliest age you start music lessons?

We generally take students from the age of six for piano and violin. We suggest guitar, drum, voice students wait until they are between the ages of eight and ten. There are exceptions, however.

Do I need to have my own instrument?

Yes, music lessons require practice. If you do not own an instrument, you will need to have access to one. Also, having the right instrument is vital to a student's success and enjoyment. That guitar tucked away in a closet may just need new strings and a neck adjustment. Or it could be completely unusable. Our teachers can advise and assist with choosing an instrument that's right for you.

Is there a registration fee?

No, D&Y has never charged a registration fee for new students. Instead we offer the first lesson free as a chance to meet the instructor and see if our teaching style is right for you.

How do I pay?

D&Y charges monthly. Students pay for the lessons they will attend at the beginning of the month. If they know they will be absent on a particular date it will be deducted from that month's tuition.

Stuck inside during the Covid-19 quarantine? Me too! Which is why I am currently offering students, both current and new, the option to take their guitar instruction classes online. Like in-person lessons, every student’s curriculum is unique and tailored to their distinct needs with regards to ability, learning style, degree of skill, goals, and personal musical tastes. If your guitar is gathering dust and you’ve been meaning to pick it up and reconnect with it, now is the time! And if you’d like to continue your lessons in person after the lockdown is lifted (and it is safe for us to do so), I would love to have you in the studio (or back in the studio)! I am currently offering online lessons live via Facetime or Skype, you can take them on your desktop, laptop, tablet, or smart phone from anywhere with a solid internet connection*. Every lesson comes with custom notated PD Fs and custom created .mp3 files of the piece(s) we are working on, along with the ability to record any part of the lesson for practicing or later review.
