Do I have to be Scottish?
Nope! We welcome everyone, and feel that this dance form can be a benefit to anyone who tries. While it is rooted in Scottish history and tells many stories from Scottish history, modern Highland Dance has a strong focus on fitness, strength, and brain development. The cross-body techniques used benefit the brain, particularly in young children ages 3.5-6. The rigorous movements help people of all ages with fun fitness, and competition helps with goal setting and commitments.
What is the difference between competitions and performance?
Highland Dance was created as part of competitive Highland Games, so it is inherently competitive. Dancers typically compete individually, and compete against people similar in age and level. The focus of competition is improvement, stage presence, and technique perfection. Performances are a way to showcase choreography, give young students a chance to practice their moves in front of others, and assist with cultural outreach and education.
Can I hire dancers for performances?
Yes! We can provide contact information for Premier-level dancers for your function. Rates are dependent on length of performance and number of dancers (and if you want live or recorded bagpipe music). Contact us for a quote!
