Where does straightness come from? Many will say balance, and that’s true to an extent, but even more importantly it comes from the mind. nnYou can’t have straightness with a scattered mind. It’s easy to want to hold the horse together and aim for straightness all while trying to fill in the symptoms of a scattered mind. A leg here for a rib. Rein here for a leaking shoulder, sit back more here to keep the hip engaged. Many times if you follow the way in which your horse travels, you’ll follow where they are thinking. Once you figure that out, if you work to connect with the horse and bring their thoughts back to your work, straightness comes much easier. nnIf you find that you struggle to achieve willingly guided with your horse, then start there first. Straightness won’t come if a horse isnt willingly guided, unless of course your traveling straight towards the thing they are thinking about. Then you’ll find straightness to be fairly easy (; nnSure you still may need to work on strengthening things, and finding balance, but you can’t find balance without the mind at ease and focused beneath you. Instead you’ll find brace and the body leaking in various places.
