Japanese karate terminology is frequently used during practices. Our glossary provides brief audio recordings giving pronunciation and each term is defined. Special tips are also provided – for example, when “Sensei” is used as an honorific, it is attached to the end of the person's family name, e.g. Ohshima Sensei (not Sensei Ohshima).

As a former instructor at San Jose Shotokan, I have to say that this dojo, as well as the broader SKA organization, is top notch for traditional martial arts instruction.
I had the good fortune to practice with John Teramoto and the seniors at the Indianapolis dojo this weekend.
Myself and my two young sons enjoy the top notch instruction at this location .

The non-profit ideology, countless high quality selfless black belt teachers, emphasis on being humble, emphasis on discipline, facing our selves with the strictest eyes and many other key life lessons were all thing I learned just because I got to join this wonderful organization.
The non-profit nature shows how dedicated the seniors are in passing on the teachings.
The karate teachings of Ohshima Sensei inspire and motivate one to be a "better human being.
