Due to the extent of his countless injuries, his brain swelling and need for pain management, he had to be placed in a medically-induced coma until Thanksgiving day, when they reduced the sedatives. Chance started to open his eyes on Thanksgiving day, and a week later started responding to minor commands. He still spends a lot of time sedated for pain control, and to keep him from getting too agitated.
