As an adult beginner, I wanted to find someone with patience and humor to work with me, and Gene did not disappoint.

My two daughters Karye and Haley age 7 and 5 has been learning piano with Gene since September 2020, for 5 months I’m surprised how much they have learned, now they are able to read the music staff, understand the note, beat… and they like to sing songs while playing music such as old Mac Donald had a farm.

I never thought I would be able to play chords, and now, I can (among many other things as well) I highly recommend taking lessons!!!

I wanted a teacher who was 1) a little outside of the box, 2) willing to make the experience fun for my child - not too strict and 3) experienced enough to have seen a wide range of students to know what to do for my child if/when she experiences difficulty.

He is a fantastic teacher who has patiently honed my son's music skills.

He has a neat little recital twice a year which is cute for the younger kids but also shows off how amazing his more mature students are...

Things were going well until I hit a wall (song I couldn't get) a friend suggested I find lessons.

I have to say, the way Gene Kelly approaches teaching music - with enthusiasm, dedication and an open mind - it has made all the difference for my children and their continuity with music.

He is also very flexible about repertoire and will spend energy to help kids find a rock or pop piece they are excited about playing, or even inviting them to use other musical talents such as singing -- but will keep them simultaneously working through the classical repertoire on the side so that they continue to be exposed to important pieces and develop an emotional relationship with baroque and romantic styles, etc.

Gene has been a terrific match for our son, meeting his musical interests, expanding his understanding of music theory, helping him discover new interests, and greatly enhancing his technical abilities.
