Most Tae Kwon Do schools have tenets that they teach the students to follow. Many have five but at our school, we have 6. That extra tenet is “ acceptance” and we have that as our first tenet as we feel it is one of the most important of the 6. We define acceptance as “supporting others even when they are different from me”. This would seem like a very simple thing but in our society so many communities are not accepted for who they are. At our school, we do NOT discourage anyone based on gender, sex, sexual orientation, race, religion, etc. All have the right to learn how to defend themself in a safe and supportive environment.
