Sentiment Analysis
I completely understand that it's very difficult to recruit many volunteers (and would be impossible to have enough for all students in need), and I admire that the org wants to include more and more students, but I think it's damaging that they advertise as if the 1:1 thing is their specialty when it's not what actually happens
It's rewarding on a lot of different levels helping children of all different backgrounds achieve better results in school, many of which probably wouldn't ever receive the attention they need to succeed if weren't for this organization and its volunteers.
One of the best parts of it is that you work with the same student (almost) every week for the whole year, so you have the opportunity to build a relationship with them, Tutoring Chicago is a great organization with such passionate and wonderful people.
Working with one student every week is a rare opportunity to build a strong relationship with a student and a vital way to make a difference in the Chicago community.
One of the best volunteer opportunities in the city, I highly recommend for anyone looking to get more connected to their neighborhood.
And it's really fun to build a relationship with the child that is assigned to you -- to watch him/her grow in ability and confidence throughout the year.
I am in my second year with the organization and have been impressed with the professionalism and passion of the organization.
Tutoring Chicago's program structure offers plenty of resources and training, and tutoring occurs within a greater classroom unit that is there to help support you and your student.
I would recommend this to anyone looking to given back and become a positive role model for a child!
You get to know your student and their parents over the course of the year as you work with them on a weekly basis.
