Isla means island in Filipino and Chamorro, and at Isla Jiu Jitsu we welcome you into our tight-knit family (aka our island! ). Isla gives our students the opportunity to exercise mentally as well as physically, giving them the chance to personalize taught concepts. Allowing Jiu Jitsu lessons to be original and adaptive towards a student's particular style of movement improves the student's independence, empowerment, and feeling of accomplishment. Instruction is great for beginners and experienced practitioners alike, with more structure for the fundamentals classes and more opportunities for personal game development and positional sparring in the advanced classes.
I recommend that you try the 3 free classes to make sure the culture, vibes and jiu jitsu classes are the right fit for you before signing up.
I really appreciate how they look out for us new white belts–instead of throwing us into sparring right away, they have us focus on drills.
